A geocache located at the old Railway Station in the township of Alexandra.

Alexandra is located in the Shire of Murrindindi with a population of around 2,700 people. It is the largest township in the Shire. It is 24 km from Eildon and 132 km from Melbourne at the intersection of the Goulburn Valley Highway and the Maroondah Highway.
History:
The township of Alexandra was established as a gold town around 1866 when a rush to the district resulted in an almost instant township. At that time it was referred to as 'Red Gate Diggings'. The name Red Gate resulted from a red painted gate separating two pastoral runs at the site now the Alexandra Library, (a replica gate can be viewed at this site). Red Gate Diggings was renamed 'Alexandra' 1867 after Princess Alexandra of Denmark (Queen Consort). After the gold rush subsided, the town relied heavily on the timber, wool, dairy, fishing and rail industries.
