This location is named "Shannon's Point" after the former president of the TRWD Board of Directors, George Shannon. Mr. Shannon was the second generation of his family to serve on the Tarrant Regional Water District Board of Directors and had served as its President for more than 15 years. His board tenure began in October 1984. During his service on the Board, Mr. Shannon oversaw the completion of several major projects: Richland-Chambers Reservoir, a five-year construction project completed in 1987, is a 44,000 acre reservoir situated in Navarro and Freestone counties and is the third largest reservoir to lie totally within the state of Texas; Benbrook Pipeline Connection, added Lake Benbrook to the Water District supply system in 1992, construction of the $62 million dollar pipeline connecting the Water Districts East Texas lakes to Lake Benbrook began in 1996 and was completed in 1998; development of the Trinity River Vision Plan, the Trinity River Vision is a master plan for 88 miles of the Trinity River and its major tributaries in Fort Worth.
