Lanternier
En 1909, un architecte du nom de Lanternier découvrait derrière le parc Sainte-Marie une source chaude au débit conséquent, prémices à la création de l’établissement de « Nancy thermal ».
On doit à Louis Lanternier (1859 – 1916), architecte de profession, quelques bâtiments nancéiens d’inspiration Art Nouveau, ainsi que des églises construites à la fin du XIXème.
Conseiller municipal de Nancy, Lanternier obtient l’autorisation à la ville en 1908 de sonder un terrain du quartier Blandan et prévoit d’agencer une station thermale en cas de réussite.
Il faut croire que l’homme avait le nez creux… Il faudra creuser jusqu’à 800 mètres de fond, un record à l’époque, mais l’eau finira par jaillir enfin en 1909, et jaillir fortement : 6500 litres à la minute, soit 8 millions de litre par jour, d’une eau limpide à 37° !
Une eau dont les propriétés se rapprochent assez des célèbres eaux de la région déjà réputées, parfois depuis des siècles. Proche de celle d’Amnéville et de Baden-Baden, l’eau de Nancy rentre dans cette même catégorie.
Sondage du Puit Artésien
Le premier niveau artésien était recoupé à 650 mètres, le 31 janvier 1909, et le sondage était poussé jusqu'à la profondeur de 800 mètres 30. (Poursuivi jusqu'à 900 mètres, ce sondage y aurait atteint le permien, peut-être même un peu plus tôt, quand au houiller, il doit être situé plus de 600 mètres en dessous du mur des grès, soit vers 1400 m.).
La traversée du Keuper a permis de reconnaître le prolongement du gisement salifère exploité jusqu'au portes de Nancy.
Le premier et deuxième faisceaux de sel ont été recoupés entre 293 mètres et 337,50m, soit sur 44,50m; Très faiblement minéralisée, comme ses soeurs de Brin et de Mont, la source de Nancy diffère notablement à ce point de vue des autres sources des grès triasiques, Mondorf, Bourbonne, Niederbronn, etc..., qui sont très chargées en chlorure de sodium.
Cette faible minéralisation la rapprocherait plutôt des eaux vosgiennes du Muschelkalk (Vittel, Martigny, Contrexéville surtout sulfatées calciques).
Nancy est plus chlorurée sodique.
Elle se conserve bien en bouteilles et la légère saveur métallique qu'elle présente à chaud, disparaît à froid, elle peut donc être une eau potable en même temps qu'une eau médicinale.
Elle se classe dans les eaux chlorurées sodiques, légèrement sulfatées calciques.
