Tangled Up In Belews Traditional Geocache

littlefrog: Thanks to everyone who alerted me to the clearing and impending development of the area where this cache used to be. It's pretty sad, the area where I placed it 2 years ago was pristine forest, now it's an ugly, muddy, eroded area which looks like it will soon be another housing development.

I retrieved the cache today and am archiving it for the time being until I get a chance to get back out there and hide it again in a new location. Stay tuned for updates, this one won't be archived for long.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located somewhere along the shoreline of Belews Lake, located in Stokes County.

While the cache is technically on the mainland, there are NO TRAILS leading to the cache location, therefore this cache should only be approached by landing a BOAT on the shore near the coords.

I placed this cache by paddling my kayak to the site.

Belews Lake has a surface area of 3,863 acres and a shoreline of approximately 88 miles and is a very popular summer recreation spot. A map of the lake can be found here

Suggested parking and boat put-in is located at the Pine Hall Access Area on Pine Hall Road. Coordinates are N36° 18.000 W-080° 03.198 The cache is approximately a mile's trip by boat from the put-in, so expect to spend at least a half-day or better yet, an entire day at the lake enjoying the water and hunting the cache.

The cache is a 2-gallon plastic bottle with a widemouth screwtop lid. Being a hydrocache of sorts, this cache has a "water theme" and all of its initial contents, including bottled water, a pool toy and an umbrella, are water-related. Keep the theme in mind if you decide to bring something to trade, and have a great time at the lake!
