Geocache Description:

This cache is located on one of Manchester's beautiful historical streets, full of extravagant Victorian architecture. Fountain street is only a short way from the city centre, but holds a quiet and elegant charm. Take your time exploring the nooks and crannies that will reward your search. The cache holds a part of "Tales From The Towpath - a textural treasure hunt", (2014 Manchester Literature Festival).

Some fine examples of Manchester's Victorian architecture can be found on Fountain Street. For example, the Estate Exchange is a Victorian office block by Thomas Worthington. It was originally built as Overseers’ and Churchwardens’ Offices in 1852, with the top two floors being added in 1858. It is a Grade II listed building as of 3 October 1974.

Fountain Steet was where, in 1823, Tib Aberforth walked off her sealegs for the first time since her six week passage from the States and paced with some confidence through the streets of Manchester.

This cache is part of "Tales From The Towpath - a textural treasure hunt", at the 2014 Manchester Literature Festival. More information at http://www.talesfromthetowpath.net/connect
