Geocache Description:

Alkham Church

Sitting between the busy towns of Folkestone And Dover, is Alkham Valley.  Alkham Valley as a place name is not found on maps, as it is derived by locals from the road that passes through the valley between the two towns.

The area is mainly agricultural with the chalk downs that is typical along this stretch of Kent, and ancient woodlands.. The area is now recognised as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and along with ancient wooded areas it also boast Special Landscape Areas, Sites of Scientific Interest, Conservation Areas and 17 Grade II listed buildings.

St Anthony's Church sits in the Villages of Alkham, and overlooks the village green is Grade I listed and the surrounding church yard contains 15 Grade II listed headstones.

The origins of the church are 12 Century and were linked to the occupants of nearby St Radigans Abbey.  Inside the church is a coffin lid bearing one of the oldest inscriptions in Kent.  The coffin belonged to Herbert de Averenches, a monk from St Radigans

The cache location is outside of the church grounds, and there is parking nearby at the carpark of the village green, resulting in a short stroll.

Congratulations on FTF for Jacs75 & Pre888or If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
