Where you are stood is on the track bed of the line from Queenborough to Queenborough Pier.
Queenborough Pier station served steam ship services at Queenborough after an agreement moved the services here from along the Kent coast at Ramsgate.
The pier suffered during its short life, as was destroyed by fire in 1882 and rebuilt once. Then 1887 a second disaster occurred and floods prevented trains reaching the pier.
And a third disaster occurred in 1900 when a second fire destroyed the pier once again. The third version of the pier station remained in service until 1914 during the war where shipping services ceased. It did not re-open and shipping was transferred to Harwich.
The remains of the pier can be seen at the reference point during low tides.
