Geocache Description:

A cache just across the road from Tan' Malies. (Tan' is short for "Tannie" in Afrikaans - It can be directly translated as "Aunt Malie's" in English). You can park at Tan' Malies parking area.

In the early stages of the dam building process 1921 – 1923 Tan Malie se Winkel, situated very close to the dam wall, was the office of Engineers of the early Hartbeespoort Irrigation Works that had to oversee the labourers and construction of the dam. Early use of Tan Malies The photo is courtesy of Hartbeespoort Environment & Heritage Association. 'Tan Malie se Winkel', built in the style of a traditional South African trading post, with their vintage yellow bakkie is a landmark in Hartbeespoort, and is probably as well known as the dam itself! The cache contains a log sheet and some swag and will take you about 50 meters up the mountain. Bring your own pen. FTF: Congrats to Panthera03! Flag Counter
