This is a simple and straightforward addition to the popular SideTracked series - I'm surprised that there wasn't one here already to be honest.
The Station
Once there used to be three railway stations in Abergavenny, which included Abergavenny Brecon Road station, Abergavenny Junction station about 1 mile north on the track of here and this, the only remaining station. This station is a two-storey villa designed in an Italianate style and was built in 1854 by the Newport, Abergavenny & Hereford Railway. In it's current state it is virtually the same as when it was built with very few alterations structurally.
The Cache
This is intended to be a quick find near to the platform (but outside the station grounds on a wooded public footpath). The cache is a sample pot placed in a fairly obvious location for a quick find. The line is effectively the border of Abergavenny town itself.
You can approach from Station Road on the western side of the line by crossing the small bridge that goes over the track and turn left on the leafy public footpath. Or you can park on the main Hereford road in the large layby on the eastern side of the line and wander down the pleasant footpath which is accessed at the southern end of the layby (trailhead waypoint). For this path you can turn off down the slope next to the low A465 post or carry on down the road right to the end of the layby and go down the steps by the footpath sign - you just walk a few metres more next to the main road that's all.
There is a third option which is the large layby also on the main Hereford road but on the opposite side. The problem here is that you will need to cross the road which can be busy at times to get to the footpath which is why I haven't marked it as a parking waypoint. The distance to walk (which isn't far) is about the same either way so there is no real advantage to parking there.
