Geocache Description:

The Village of Thornton le Street, situated just off the A168 between Thirsk and Northallerton is mentioned in the Domesday Book as 'Torentun in the Allerton hundred.' It is a pretty little village with a few houses, a church and a village hall which was formerly the school.

The Church is dedicated to St Leonard and is a grade 2 listed building. The oldest parts indicate it was built in the 12th Century with modifications in the 14th and 19th centuries.

The coordinates will take you to the Church gate. You need to find the tombstone of the Kirk family from which you need to extract the following information.

1. John Kirk's widow died on April BA  AHBC aged FC

2. His daughter died on April F  AHDC aged FH

The cache can be found at N. DC  A(C+B).AH(BxC)    W001   BA. HF(H-H)

This is a very busy road please watch children and dogs and beware of Muggles!

February 2017 Please note that there are extensive repairs being carried out on the Church for the next few months but it is still possible to access the graveyard and the required tombstone.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.

There is also a Church Micro Stats & Information page found via the Bookmark list
