Geocache Description:

Children from my generation would have fond memories of playing frogger, I'm not sure how many of them would actually enjoy playing it for real though? Luckily VicRoads was required to prevent that from happening.

The children and I think that the local frogs have a pretty cool name: "The Growling Grass Frog" (Litoria raniformis). They also go under the alias of "bell frog" or "warty swamp frog" which are equally cool names.

Thousands of people fly past every day on the Pakenham bypass and probably don't even give a thought to the poor old growling grass frog. Luckily for the local frog population frog fences were erected many years ago to prevent a real life game of frogger.

The growling grass frog is protected under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and VicRoads is required to take steps to help preserve their habitats and protect them from traffic.

There is local concern about the state of the frog fencing.

THE CACHE

The cache is located at a small frog pond which is man made pond that was constructed along with the freeway and is home to many frog species. We were delighted to hear the chorus of frogs the day we placed it. The actual cache itself a small novelty container that will hold small swaps, it's located near the freeway so please park in the suggested parking area and be careful. At the moment the grass is slashed and access isn't too bad but I can't say with confidence that the Cardina Shire will maintain that level in times to come so please be careful if it turns into a bush bash and don't forget snakes love frogs! Please screw the lid tight and replace it sensibly.
