McCulloch County Population 37 (1990) The town began life early in the 20th Century as a loosely formed community under the western-sounding name of Saddle Creek. In 1910 the town applied for a post office under the more prosaic name of Pear Valley. The population is recorded as being 45 from the 1930s through the early 1960s when it suddenly dropped to a mere 20 in 1964. It has since regained some of that loss and in 1990, it was given as 37. The remains of the school, built in 1935, and the cemetery are about all that remain.
