Geocache Description:

A small camouflage container with logbook, pencil and a few swaps.

Although named Kirk Smeaton it's nearer to Little Smeaton, the staion was opened in July 1885 on the Hull - Barnsley line. It had staion master's house, booking office, waiting rooms and toilets, plus it's own signal box and turn table. there was never much passenger use of the staion and it closed for passenger in 1932, but remained open for frieght until 1959.

The cache location would have given a good view looking down over the signal box and to the staion. The station today is used as a commericial businness, and the entrance and roads near by can be quite busy, but it's only a short walk from the cache. (N53 38.502 W001 11.982 are the coordinates, from where you can see the old staion).
