Geocache Description:

The novel FIGHT CLUB by Chuck Palahniuk was published in August, 1996. The Main Branch of the Gundah Ridge Library celebrates the 18th anniversary of its publication with a special geocache. The cache is NOT at the listed coordinates, these mark an access road and provide the degrees and minutes of the final location; you'll need to work out the decimal minutes by solving the puzzle below.

The Gundah Ridge Library was originally established in stepped sandstone terrain just off the Gundah Ridge Track at the end of Beaumont Road in Mt Kuring-gai in April, 2014. It was ransacked in July resulting in its removal and repair. The library trustees established a sub-branch elsewhere along the ridge dedicated to George Orwell's novel 1984 (Gundah Ridge Library 1984). The main branch has been relocated to a "nice" spot in "similar" terrain (>T3.5-4) overlooking Joe Craft's Creek near Cowan. The library has some magnificent views over some northern suburbs bushland. You are welcome to stay as long as you like, and visit as often as you like.

Tyler Durden's space monkeys assigned to Project Mayhem's Library relocation squad have done their best to reduce the chances the library will be ransacked again, you see there is a 4m rock climb involved to take you to GZ which is on an intermediate ledge on a higher cliff (~10m). So some rock climbing skills will be required. (It's greater than a T3 but less than a T5, so we ended up on T4). If you don't have these skills then bring someone who does! You may want to bring a rope and harness to provide support if you lack the confidence to climb down unassisted. As with all Geocache adventures signing the log is your decision, done at your own risk! Take care!

The library rules are simple:

1. There's only one title: Fight Club.

2. There's only ONE TITLE: Fight Club.

3. If you can't solve the puzzle or climb down the cliff the fight is over.

4. The Library holds two copies of Fight Club: one trackable copy for loan and travel (Catalogue number GRL-FC#2 with tag attached-reading for your next overseas holiday perhaps), and one copy (a Gundah Ridge Library Special Edition) that stays with the library. If you borrow please return the item within 4 months to the library (either branch), or request an extension from the head librarian.

5. One copy per team at a time.

6. Shirt and shoes will be required. Some will need ropes, most will not.

7. The search will go on as long as it has to.

8. If this is your first visit to the Gundah Ridge Library you have to find it.

The library is open all year round 24/7; night visits though are not recommended. Careful observation will reveal the way in. The interior lighting is a little low so a torch might come in handy but is not essential. Take great care not to fall off anything!

NOTE In order to post a successful find you'll need to sign "The Librarian's Logbook" (field puzzle of sorts - see the contents photo in the gallery). The librarians keep this behind closed doors. Please place any TBs and coins with the log book, unless they are too large in which case the foyer should be fine.

In your log please include a comment on Fight Club or note one of your favourite books and why. The librarians are always interested in new titles that might be of interest to borrowers. Oh...the final rule, please close the door on your way out and replace everything as found, especially any additional camo.....now Shhh. Oh and mind any muggle repellent the space monkeys may have left behind.
