Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of geocaches placed by Texas A&M Forest Service to showcase various aspects of the agency and properties it manages. This is located near the agency's College Station Headquarters.

Texas Forest Service was created in 1915 by the 34th Legislature as an integral part of The Texas A&M University System. It is mandated by law to "assume direction of all forest interest and all matters pertaining to forestry within the jurisdiction of the state." In 2012, the agency's name was changed to Texas A&M Forest Service, but the mission remained unchanged: to provide statewide leadership to assure the state's trees, forests and related natural resources are protected and sustained for the benefit of all.

Texas A&M Forest Service employs nearly 600 employees across the state in a variety of positions including forest health, tree improvement, forest inventory & analysis, urban forestry, incident response, fire mitigation & prevention, law enforcement, and numerous others.
