Geocache Description:

Pie Bukultiem Jaunciema gatves otrā pusē iekārtota Rīgas TEC-I kūdras noliktava. Kanāla krastos atrodas Rīgas pilsētas apkaime Bukulti un Garkalnes novada ciemi Bukulti un Priedkalne. Kanālu šķērso Jaunciema gatve.

Latvijas PSR laikā bija izveidota regulāra kuģīšu satiksme, kuru atklāja 1691 gadā ar kuģīti Raketa:

·         Jugla – Baltezers. Satiksmes sākums plkst. 6:30, satiksmes beigas plkst. 23:00.

  • Jugla – Bukulti – Senču sils – Baltezers – Ādaži – Aldaris. Brauciena ilgums 1 st. 20 min.

The cache is located on one of the boat stops at Juglas channel. Today the ship pier is not in use. The magnetic micro ambush contains a logbook and pencil.

Juglas (Bukultu) channel was built in1903. In aplace of former  Bukultu dzirnupīte (formerly Bukultu strem). Jugla channel is connecting the Jugla river with the Great Baltezers ad it is a part of Gauja and Daugava-channel system. The chanel system was created  by timber rafters. Timber floated over to Riga via Gauja and Riga bay  was inefective and lot of material was lost in the sea.  Bukultu channel  was developing and soon in the  nearest lakes appeared sturdy, blackened tugs, barges dragging gravel and bricks or long strings of rafts with rowing boats tied at the end. Later on appeared the passenger boats carying people to Riga. Channel is located in the Riga city and Garkalne County villages Bukulti and Priedkalne.
