Geocache Description:

Not everything is what it appears to be

Should I Stay or Should I Go?Gawcott is a village about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) southwest of Buckingham in Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire, England. The village is in the civil parish of Gawcott with Lenborough.

The name "Gawcott" is derived from the Old English for "a cottage for which rent is payable". The Domesday Book of 1086 records the village as "Chauescote".

To the east of the village is Signal Hill, which was a former MI6 signals intelligence station.

Sir George Gilbert Scott, the architect of the Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras railway station in London the Albert Memorial and numerous other buildings, was born in Gawcott in 1811.

In his memoirs of 1879 Scott writes:

"The inhabitants of Gawcott were a very quaint race. I recollect my father saying that when he first went there to reconnoitre, he found the road to it rendered impassable by a large hole dug across it, in which the inhabitants were engaged in baiting a badger, a promising prelude to an evangelical ministry among them. However he succeeded in bringing the place in due time into a more seemly state as to externals, though the old leaven remained, and a certain amount of poaching and other forms of rural blackguardism still prevailed. There grew up amongst all this, however, a good proportion of really excellent people, some of whom had at one time belonged to the previously more normal type."

The Cache: This cache appears to be a simple micro placed to mark a Bicester and District (BAD) Event held in the nearby Public House in July 2014 . Although it is suitable as a "Cache & Dash" and there is parking close by please observe the road markings and park responsibly.
