ALIVE !!!!!
Months after we had
given this stash up for dead, a closer inspection has found our
very first cache alive and hopping....but only just. As stated in
previous logs the contents are suffering from the effects of
condensation. No worries! I have cleaned them up so the find is
worth the effort once more.
The cache is now a clear 5lt container (formerly it was a large
black Tupperware Box) and is located near an escarpment that
separates suburban Hornsby Heights from the beautiful Berowra
Valley Bushland Park. It contains some of the usual stuff and a few
surprises. It is called "Frog Hollow" after the rather large Toad
population in the wetland area very near the site.
Start your tracking by entering the bush at the fire trail gate
on Ulolo Avenue Hornsby Heights (next to house number 50) and it's
downhill from there. You will eventually arrive at an intersection,
but I'm not going to tell you which way to go, you have the GPS.
The key is entering the bush at the right place and saving a lot of
bush bashing.The location was averaged several times because of
tree line interference, so be prepared for some tricky
readings.
The stash is hidden about a body length away from the thick
trunk of a very old reddish coloured gum tree and is partially
covered with bark and leaves. Be sure to replace the seal properly
and cover it again with bark before you leave.
After your hunt you might like to take a drive over to
Crosslands reserve, a relatively undiscovered treasure in itself at
the northern end of Hornsby Heights. It has all the facilities you
need for a great Barbecue/Picnic and will soon to be the site of
another Cache.
