OPIS POTI:

Ko pridemo do označenega začetka poti (Trailhead, slike 1, 2 in 3) zavijemo v gozd (sliki 4 in 5) in nadaljujemo čez podrto drevo, po slabše vidni potki v smeri zakladka (slike 6, 7 in 8), čez podrto vejevje (slike 9, 10 in 11) in naprej do prepada (slike 12, 13 in 14), kjer zavijemo desno in se po skalah in koreninah s pomočjo vrvi spustimo po strmini navzdol (vrv je že tam!) (sliki 15 in 16).

Objekt do sedaj še ni bil deležen podrobnih raziskav, zato o tem prezrtem pomniku zgodovine Kranja in njegove okolice do sedaj še nismo vedeli skoraj nič.

PATH DESCRIPTION:

When we get to the marked beginning of the path (trailhead, images 1, 2 and 3), we turn into the forest (images 4 and 5) and continue over the fallen tree in the directtion towards the cache (images 6, 7 and 8), over the fallen branches (images 9, 10 and 11) and forwards to the cliff (images 12, 13 and 14), where we turn right and descend down the cliff. You can help yourself using rocks, roots and the rope (the rope is already there!) (images 15 and 16). When we reach the bottom, we continue on the path, all the way to the castle.

We don't recommend searching for this cache at night or during rainy weather, because it can get slippery and dangerous. To access the cache you don't need any special equipment, except for suitable footwear.

CASTLE DESCRIPTION:

Šmajdov Castle is a conglomerate rock shelter in the canyon of Kokra river near Predoslje, Kranj. It's registered as a cave, and protected as a cultural monument. The castle was, according to the current research built around the time of Turkish invasions.

The facility has not yet been carefully researched, therefore we didn't know much about this important piece of history until now.

There has been folk testimony preserved , that people were hiding here from the Turks and later on, soliders hiding, so they didn't have to go into the army. There is also a legend about a tunnel, that connects Šmajdov and the Brdo castle.

The castle's age was determined by a silver coin, they found from 1436. The arheologists found less things that they expected, although the castle seems like a good tourist attraction.

At this link (http://www.carnium.si/smajdov-grad), you'll find the description of the castle and the research, and also pictures and a video of the castle, and at this link (http://ava.rtvslo.si / predvajaj/smajdov-grad/ava2.77728358 /), you can see the post from RTV SLO.
