The Trail Route.... Following the blue Bigfoot prints will take us now to the far western portion of the community. Along the way take a moment at the Ice Age Floods interpretive stop to reflect on the awesome effect these events had on this area!
Pierce Wildlife Refuge...Continuing on, the edge of the 329 acre Pierce Wildlife Refuge comes into view. Established in 1990 from a donation by local resident Lena Pierce as an “inviolate sanctuary” for wildlife, the Refuge contains a wide variety of animals and birds making use of the area’s woodlands and wetlands. It's closed to public entry, but you can see some of the best glimpses inside the refuge from this part of the trail.
Look west and see the 848' tall Beacon Rock, an ancient volcanic core that Lewis and Clark wrote about. You may visit it at Beacon Rock State Park--and you may even want to hike or climb to the top of this historic landmark along its established non techincal trail!
The Wildlife Watcher: We Bigfoots love isolated places that offer quiet reflection and there are several here in the community. This slightly off trail tucked-away spot is one of our favorites as it looks out upon the beauty of the refuge. Well, what do you know, one of the Bigfoots is there now. Find him and his cache!
