The Location
In the past few years, the Winchester Downtown Development Corporation has sparked a rebirth of downtown. A major restoration of Winchester's historic building facades is preserving this timeless architecture for generations to come.
The Area
Back in 1810, Revolutionary War veteran General James Winchester and a handful of settlers made Winchester home. Winchester was named in honor of General James Winchester (February 26, 1752 - July 26, 1826), a soldier of the American Revolution, first Speaker of Tennessee Legislature, and a Brigadier General in the War of 1812. From legendary pioneer Davy Crockett to TV pioneer Dinah Shore, Winchester is a history-buffs paradise. Historic architecture. Early settlers. American Indians. Civil War. World Wars. Winchester has long history of interesting characters from the past.
The Jack Trail GeoTour
The Jack Trail GeoTour is a series of geocaches along the backroads and small towns of Middle Tennessee. There is no fixed itinerary, like on a traditional trail, but rather a series of points of interest in a self-guided, goal-oriented plan. We have created a special passport, which you can download here, which lets you track your progress as you hunt specially placed geocaches along the tour. This passport will help you collect “code words” to qualify for special geocoins for completion of the GeoTour.
