Four Mile Creek is a beautiful creek with many scenic areas which runs from it's source at Acton Lake in Hueston Woods, down to it's confluence with the Great Miami River upstream of Hamilton, covering around 23 miles in the process. Dennis and Doc have spent much time on the creek, exploring both on foot and by kayak. We hope you'll do the same as you visit our adventure caches on this beautiful waterway.
In this adventure, our cache brings you to an area of bridge debris. Here, you'll find both the remains of the bridge that used to carry Treiber Rd across Four Mile Creek as well as the debris from the bridge that carried Seven Mile Ave across Four Mile Creek further down stream. We believe the Treiber Rd bridge was destroyed in a flood and the Seven Mile Ave Bridge was upgraded and the remains placed here for erosion control.
We hope you enjoy our handmade container. It was originally stocked with new goodies that might be useful for an adventure on or near the water.
To access this cache, we suggest one of a couple possible adventures (in no particular order):
1 - Put in where Eaton Rd crosses Four Mile Creek, and enjoy the paddle down to this cache. Take out at Antenen's river access a short distance below the cache, or perhaps continue on to Comb's park on the GMR. This run is possible even at normal (not post-rain) levels with only a minimum of drag. The Eaton to Comb's run took us about 4 hours at normal June water levels.
2 - Put in on Seven Mile Creek at West Elkton Rd and enjoy the paddle down to this cache, taking Seven Mile Creek to it's confluence with Four Mile and then following Four Mile Creek to the cache. Take out at Antenen's river access a short distance below the cache, or perhaps continue on to Comb's park on the GMR. This run is possible even at normal (not post-rain) levels with only a minimum of drag. We made the West Elkton to Comb's run in about 3 hours at normal July water levels when we placed the cache.
3 - Park at Antenen and carry your boat back to the river access (which is a LONG walk!) and then take the short paddle upstream to the cache. The cache is accessible before the first rapids upstream. Then, either take back out at Antenen, or perhaps enjoy the run down to Comb's on the GMR. Antenen to Combs is about a 2 hour run at normal June water levels.
