Established in 1914 as soon as first world war started and finished in 1915 with two 6 inch QF guns. the battery was built on the crest of Wardija ridge therefore, being naturally protected, it was not considered necessary to surround the work by any permanent fortifications. Its role was taken over by fort Campbell in Selmun. During World War 2, a radar set of the gun laying series (GL) was established on the site of Wardija Battery.
