Contournez le pilier Ouest de la Tour Eiffel et enfoncez-vous un peu dans le parc. Là, bien cachée dans les buissons, vous devriez voir se dresser une cheminée de briques rouges insolite et méconnue – souvent des parisiens eux-mêmes !

There is no sign or plaque indicating how to find it or describing what it is exactly, but note that the chimney of the Eiffel Tower, as pretty and picturesque as it is, had absolutely no decorative function at the beginning of the 20th century and its aim was purely practical and industrial.
La tourelle est en réalité un ancien incinérateur datant du chantier de construction de la structure de Mr Eiffel en 1887.
Vous pourrez remarquer que son parfait état de conservation permet encore d’en distinguer la porte , aujourd’hui certes murée mais parfaitement visible.

Au moment de son plein usage, l’incinérateur servait à récolter de l’énergie pour (et par) le chantier grâce à la destruction des déchets qu’engendrait la construction titanesque de la Tour.
Un savant réseau de canaux et de tuyaux souterrains reliant la cheminée de la Tour Eiffel à une salle des machines située sous le pilier sud, permettait à l’énergie ainsi récoltée d’être traitée et réutilisée, notamment pour permettre aux ascenseurs de monter et de descendre !
