We are planning to archive the FF40 series in the coming months (plus four nearby caches), starting with the following cluster, which we hope to take in soon after 4th July 2020. The remainder of the FF40 series will be archived in the following 1-2 months. As reported elsewhere, parts of Nipper Grove, through which this string passes, have recently undergone significant levels of forestry, making some of these caches hard to access.

With its spectacular scenery, rich culture and near-impenetrable dialects, people sometime think of Somerset ( ‘Zummerzet’ to the locals) simply as an outstanding tourist destination. It is easy to forget that the county has often been at the very cutting edge of science and technology.
Who remembers now, for example, that Somerset once boasted an active space program with the stated objective of putting a cider barrel into orbit round the Moon during the summer of 1968 (citation through Geocheck).
This project naturally caused some consternation in the United States - as can be seen from an article found in a rare archive copy of the Bridgwater Mercury under the headline “Ar! NASA mark cider keg lob”.
