Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the SideTracked series.

About SideTracked: These are Cache and Dashes for public transport users, which can be found at or near train stations, ex-train stations such as this or near miniature railways.

Near the site of disused and closed Heaton Mersey station. See GC88Y2A for a more accurate location

Heaton Mersey station was on the old Midland Railway line that ran from the Manchester Central via Didsbury, Heaton Mersey and Cheadle Heath via the Peak District to London St Pancras. It was opened in January 1880 and closed to passenger services on 3 July 1961. The last express service passed through on 4 May 1969. The line was disconnected on 17 August 1969 and lifted in 1970. The station was demolished and the cutting used as landfill, but the bridge abutment can still be seen.

The disused stations web site has a much fuller description with timetables, maps and photographs, here:

The best access is from Craig Road.

Congratulations to thedizzydriscoll's on FTF. I was worried their nearby cache might prevent me placing this one

The new cache is not big enough for TBs but I didn't want to change the size
