The Old Calaboose served as the Jackson County jail from 1876-1886 when a larger jail opened. The City of Jefferson then jailed its prisoners in the small building until an inmate set the structure on fire in an effort to escape. Currently owned by the Jefferson First Baptist Church, only the cell portion remains.
