Geocache Description:

Grayback mountain, elevation 3,766 feet.

A remote area on the edge of the Simcoe mountains and the Yakama Indian Reservation, if you like a little solitude you might get an overdose of it out here. The best time for accessing the area is during the spring when the wildflowers are in bloom and hunting season isn't open. The trip to the summit transitions from oak to pine woodlands and then up through open meadows. From the parking area it is about a 10 mile round trip/1,800 feet elevation gain hike or bike ride. The cache is placed near the former lookout site with sweeping views of Mt. Adams and the Klickitat river gorge. There is free camping at the trailhead and at numerous places along the Klickitat river, bring a discovery pass. If you have a 4wd it is possible to park a little closer by staying to the left at the junction just before the parking area and following the road(there are several caches along here worth stopping for) to its gated end. Go East a quarter mile(cross east through the two wire fence do not go onto private property) to the Grayback road and then head North. If you've never been out here before the driving loop from Bingen to BZ corner to Glenwood to Lyle is one of the most scenic in Washington, be sure to stop at the Conboy lake wildlife refuge and check out the old house. Congratulations to the wolffbudz crew for making the long drive and trek to the old lookout sight for the FTF. I'm glad you made it during the spring when the wildflowers are blooming.
