Il Museo del Tessuto occupa gli ambienti restaurati dell'ex cimatoria Campolmi, gioiello di archeologia industriale del XIX secolo situato all'interno della cerchia muraria medievale della città. Il Museo rappresenta la memoria storica e l'interfaccia culturale del distretto pratese, un'area impegnata nella produzione tessile da oltre 800 anni, che oggi conta circa 7000 aziende ed esporta in tutto il mondo filati, tessuti e macchinari altamente innovativi.
1975: nasce il Museo del Tessuto di Prato, con sede presso l’Istituto Tecnico Industriale Tullio Buzzi, grazie alla donazione di un importantissimo nucleo di tessuti antichi da parte dell’imprenditore Loriano Bertini, che si va ad aggiungere alle testimonianze raccolte negli anni dai professori della scuola. Nel corso degli anni le collezioni hanno visto un notevole incremento del loro volume grazie allo sforzo fattivo dell’Associazione Ex Allievi dell’Istituto Buzzi e di altre importanti istituzioni cittadine, come ad esempio il Comune di Prato, la Cariprato, l’Unione Industriale Pratese.
1997: il Museo cambia sede e si trasferisce come soluzione provvisoria presso il Palazzo Comunale, con l’intento di aumentare la fruibilità delle collezioni e di sviluppare attorno ad esse un programma permanente di valorizzazione rivolto ad un pubblico più vasto. Particolarmente importante in questo periodo è il consolidarsi del rapporto con PratoTrade, il Consorzio di 150 selezionate aziende tessili dell'area di Prato produttrici di tessuti per abbigliamento, che attraverso le sue continue donazioni ha permesso la costituzione della Sezione Contemporanea del Museo.
2001: si costituisce l’Associazione Amici del Museo del Tessuto, nata con il fine statutario di arricchire le collezioni attraverso l’acquisizione di nuovi reperti. Si susseguono donazioni di campionari tessili e materiali, sia da parte delle aziende tessili del distretto, sia da parte di numerosi privati cittadini.
5 Maggio 2003: viene inaugurata la sede definitiva del Museo presso la ex fabbrica Campolmi, gioiello di archeologia industriale tessile del XIX secolo, alla presenza dell’allora Presidente della Camera dei Deputati, on. Pierferdinando Casini.
Novembre 2003: nasce la Fondazione Museo del Tessuto di Prato, nuovo soggetto gestore del Museo fondato da Camera di Commercio, Comune e Provincia di Prato, Unione Industriale Pratese.

The Textile Museum occupies the restored rooms of the former pruning Campolmi, jewel of industrial archeology of the nineteenth century, situated within the walls of the medieval city. The Museum is the historical memory and the cultural interface of the Prato district, an area involved in textile manufacturing for over 800 years, which now has about 7,000 companies and exports all over the world spun, woven and highly innovative machinery.
1975 founded the Textile Museum of Prato , based at the Technical Institute Tullio Buzzi, thanks to the donation of an important group of ancient fabrics by the entrepreneur Loriano Bertini, which is in addition to the evidence gathered over the years by teachers.Over the years, the collections have seen a significant increase in the volume thanks to the proactive effort of the Association of Former Students of the Institute Buzzi and other important civic institutions , such as the municipality of Prato , the Cariprato , the Industrial Association of Prato .
1997 Museum changes location and moves as a temporary solution at the Town Hall, with the intent to increase the usability of the collections and to develop around them a permanent program of development aimed at a wider audience. Particularly important in this period was the consolidation of the relationship with Pratotrade , the consortium of 150 companies selected area of Prato textile fabrics for apparel manufacturers , who through his continuing donations has allowed the establishment of the Museum of Contemporary Chamber .
2001 was formed the Association of Friends of the Textile Museum , founded with the statutory purpose of enriching the collections through the acquisition of new finds . This was followed by donations of materials and textile samples , both from the textile companies in the district , both on the part of many private citizens.
May 5, 2003 : inaugurated the permanent seat of the Museum at the former factory Campolmi jewel of textile industrial archeology of the nineteenth century , the presence of the President of the Chamber of Deputies , Hon. Pier Ferdinando Casini.
November 2003: born in Prato Textile Museum Foundation , the new manager of the museum founded by the Chamber of Commerce , the City and the Province of Prato , Prato Industrial Union .
