Wilderness Gorge is a special area for wildlife in Clonmel, with wetland, woodland and grassland habitats. It has a huge variety of wild plants and animals. 68 different species of birds have been found here, including Little Egret, Wigeon, Peregrine, Kingfisher, Long-eared Owl and Stonechat, as well as many more common species such as Mute Swan and Mallard.19 species of butterfly have been found here, including Holly Blue, Orange Tip and Speckled Wood. Tipperary's only record of the rare Emperor dragonfly was made here. Many plants are found in the different habiats, such as Yellow Flag iris, Reedmace, Hart's-tongue Fern, Wold Marjoram and Yarrow, as well as Ash trees and Whitethorn. Old-mans Beard can be seen climbing over the trees.
