A straightforward 3 stage Multi cache with takes you to 3 delightful 'spiritual buildings' all within 0.7.miles of each other in Spencers Wood and Three Mile Cross. You will need to visit all 3 churches/ chapels to gather information to work out the final coordinates, which will then lead you to the cache near by.
The cache is NOT at the published coordinates. The published coordinates are for St. Michaels & All Angels Church. There is parking in the layby directly opposite St Michael & All Angels, on the Basingstoke Road. I've made this church Stage 1 as it's the main church of the 3 and a good as place to start as any. However, it makes no difference at all in which order you do the 3 stages.
The cache itself is hiding near to Stage 3 the Congregational Chapel.
Stage 1- St Michael's & All Angels, Spencers Wood (N 51° 23.895 W 000° 58.348)
This quant brick built church was opened in 1908 and sports an elegeant open bell tower.
Go to the wooden war memorial that is just inside the front gate of the church. How many soldiers with the surname 'Lee' are recorded on the memorial?= A
To the left of the war memorial is a wooden bench that has been dedicated to former priest Aubrey Edwards. What 2 years are mentioned on the bench? (just the last 2 digits of each)= 19BC and 19DE
Stage 2- Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Three Mile Cross (N 51° 24.259 W 000° 58.416)
I'm unable to provide any history of the tiny chapel other than it was opened in 1876. If you go the front of the chapel and then look for a commemorative plaque on the wall just under the left front window. The plaque has the following inscription ""This stone was laid by Mrs J D Brown ?th June 1876". You need to find which day in June 1876= F
Stage 3- Congregational Chapel, Spencers Wood (N 51° 23.624 W 000° 58.422)
The Congregational Chapel was built in 1903 on Basingstoke Road replacing the old one built in 1837, at the bottom of Chapel Lane. The chapel has now been converted very successfully into housing.
If you look through the fence at the chapel, just at the point of the bus stop on the Basingstoke Road, you should see a white door with the number 2 on it. There is a stone plaque just above the white door that reads "The Old Chapel" and a year in roman numerals. What is this year? (just the last 2 digits of each)= 20GH
The cache can be found at the following location;
N 51° 23.(A+B)(F+B)(B-C) W 000° 58.(D-F)(F+G)(A+E+H)
