Geocache Description:

12 July 2014, 00:00 - 13:00

Geoaware ja hänen kaksi tytärtään perustivat ensimmäisen Earthcachen
10. päivänä tammikuuta 2004. Kätkö sijaitsee Australiassa noin 3 tunnin
ajomatkan päässä Sydneystä etelän suuntaan.
EarthCache I - a simple geology tour of Wasp Head
oli julkaistuna kaksi viikkoa ennen kuin sen löysi Tankengine. Ensimmäisesä logissa lukee:

"Chooo ooo *FTF* The family wanted to go to the beach today, and I thought that was a great idea! They had fun in the sand, and I went off to do the cache. It was great! Just a like exploring around the rock pools, but with a geology lesson thrown in! I’ve seen similar formations in the past, and often wondered how the heck they got to be like that, but here all was explained! Fantastic! The only minor difficulty was the initial access from the beach to the rocks, but after that it was easy going. (I think it was high tide).

Excellent cache thanks geoaware – now I’m looking forward to more…"

Kaikki Geokohteiden ja geokätköilyn ystävät,
Kokoonnutaan Himoksella sijaitsevan Kuikanvuoren huipulle perinteiseen Geokätköilyeventtiin. Eventissä jatkamme tammikuussa alkanutta Geokohteiden juhlavuotta juhlien ja jutellen earthcacheista,
sekä geokätköilystä yleensä.

Tapahtumapaikka on Himosvuoren länsirinteiden huipulla sijaitsevalla kodalla

On the 10th of January 2004 on a headland 3 hrs south of Sydney, Australia the very first EarthCache was 'placed' by Geoaware and his two daughters. EarthCache I - a simple geology tour of Wasp Head sat for two weeks before it was found by Tankengine. The first log reads:

"Chooo ooo *FTF* The family wanted to go to the beach today, and I thought that was a great idea! They had fun in the sand, and I went off to do the cache. It was great! Just a like exploring around the rock pools, but with a geology lesson thrown in! The only minor difficulty was the initial access from the beach to the rocks, but after that it was easy going. (I think it was high tide).

Excellent cache thanks geoaware – now I’m looking forward to more…"

All friends of earthcaching and geocaching,
Let's gather together to continue birthday celebration of earthcaching that started at January.

Event takes place at the outdoor hut that is located at the top of Kuikanvuori at 12th of July 2014, from 8 to 10 PM
(time can be refined closer to the event)

In program there will be traditional event cache atractions. There will also be some material about earthcaching provided at the event site.

The most exciting way to learn about the Earth and its processes is to get into the outdoors and experience it first-hand. Visiting an Earthcache is a great outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy. An Earthcache is a special place that people can visit to learn about a unique geoscience feature or aspect of our Earth. Earthcaches include a set of educational notes and the details about where to find the location (latitude and longitude). Visitors to Earthcaches can see how our planet has been shaped by geological processes, how we manage the resources and how scientists gather evidence to learn about the Earth.

An EarthCache provides an Earth Science lesson through a visit to a unique geological site, and generally focuses on one aspect of the site. The description and tasks combine to teach the lesson and highlight what is unique or interesting about the location.
