Follow the road from Fionnphort towards Knockvologan. Near the end of the road, there is a small parking area by the fence, with a house and barns visible up ahead. Look for the nature reserve interpretation board next to one of the barns and take the stony track leading across moorland. Go through a gate and continue towards a hill surrounded by woodland. On reaching another gate (which may look locked but you can unhook the chain) you are entering the nature reserve. Take great care on the paths and bridges, the ground underfoot is likely to be quite wet.
Tireragan was the largest township in the area with a population of 95 at the start of the 19th Century. It is now under the management of Highland Renewal and is closed off from grazing livestock to allow natural regeneration of its woodlands and flora and fauna to occur.
