Le Garand M1 est le premier fusil semi-automatique réglementaire de l'US Army. Elle fut l'arme destinée aux fantassins de l'US Army la plus produite durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, réputée pour sa précision fort acceptable pour une arme de production de masse à bas coût, la vélocité de sa munition bien supérieure à celle de la carabine US M1, ainsi que son système de rechargement semi-automatique.
Le Garand M1 a également l'avantage d'être facilement démontable sans outil.
Il en fut produit près de 4 millions d'exemplaires de 1936 à 1945.
