Pfaffenheim au coeur du vignoble
Le village dont l'origine remonte à la période romaine, voire celte, doit son nom « Papanheim » à la nombreuse présence de domaines appartenant à des couvents et monastères. Les recherches actuelles tendent à prouver une présence antérieure sur le site, les « prêtres » pouvant être des « druides ». Le commerce du vin devait être florissant : en effet, nombreuses sont les maisons « patriciennes » datant de la Renaissance et dont il reste de magnifiques tours abritant des escaliers en pierre de taille. Le village comptait aussi trois « châteaux », qui étaient plutôt des « maisons fortes » et dont il ne reste malheureusement plus de trace. Qui dit richesse, dit convoitise, et Pfaffenheim a payé chèrement cette prodigalité de la nature puisque le village a été détruit à trois reprises : en 1338 par les armées de l'empereur de Bavière en lutte avec l'évêché de Strasbourg, en 1444 par les Armagnacs, et en 1525 au cours de la Guerre des Paysans.

Der Ursprung von Pfaffenheim liegt in der Römischen Zeit und vielleicht sogar in der keltischen Zeit. Viele Klöster besaßen Ländereien in Pfaffenheim, deshalb der Urname „Papanheim“. Gegenwärtige Suchen zielen darauf ab eine frühere Anwesenheit des Orts zu prüfen, wonach die Priester auch die Druiden sein könnten und deshalb ist vermutlich der Ursprung von Pfaffenheim in der keltische Zeit zu finden. Während der Renaissance war der Weinhandel sehr gut. Es gab sogar drei Schlösser in Pfaffenheim. Heute bleiben noch einige bemerkenswerte Häuser von dieser Zeit. Pfaffenheim wurde wegen des Reichtums des Dorfs mehrmals ausgeplündert und zerstört.

The origin of Pfaffenheim goes back to the roman epoch and maybe previously in the Celtic epoch. Many convents owned their property in Pfaffenheim, that's why this place was called Papanheim. But those religious people were maybe druids. That's the reason why the origin of the village may go back to the Celtic epoch. During the Renaissance the wine trade was very good and there were three castles in Pfaffenheim. Nowadays, you can see remarkable houses from this epoch. Pfaffenheim was plundered and devastated many times because of its wealth.
