Geocache Description:

This traditional cache is located on the remains of Payne's Wharf in Deptford. From GZ, there are good views along the Thames of the Naval College and the entrance to the Greenwich Foot Tunnel.

Specialist climbing equipment is required. Pay attention to the tide times. Extra care should be taken as the wood is quite rotten in places. As always, it is entirely your own risk.

Paynes Wharf was built in 1860 as a boiler workshop for John Penn & Sons until 1913 . Penn's supplied boilers for ships, the most notable was HMS Warrior, the first iron warship, now preserved in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

The Grade II listed façade of Paynes, with its Italianate arches, is the only part of the original building left.
