PANELÕES DO GUARTELÁ

Os panelões geológicos são frequentemente encontrados na base das quedas de água ou no leito de rocha dos rios. São depressões circulares formadas pela erosão gradual do caudal do rio contendo areia e gravilha. As pequenas partículas de rocha caiem em cavidades e pelo movimento da água provocam a abrasão, num processo de perfuração. O processo é lento na escala humana mas, em longos períodos as complexas interacções entre rocha e água aumentam a dimensão destes buracos. Neste caso, um afluente do grande Rio Iapó forma estes panelões mesmo antes de desaguar.

GUARTELÁ POTHOLES

Geological potholes are commonly found in plunge pools below cataract style water falls or in the river bedrocks. They are circular depressions formed by the gradual erosion of the river stream bearing stones and gravel. The small particles of rock fall into the the cavities and by the movement of the water flow make the abrasion in a drilling process. Their enlargement is slow on the human timescale, but over longer periods of time the complex interactions of rock and water gradually increase the dimensions of these hollows. In this case, a small tributary river of the big Iapó make these potholes just before joining to it.

WHY HERE? Hard to find potholes like these in Brazil.
