Puisqu'il n'y a pas eu de maintenance dans un laps de temps raisonnable, j'archive cette cache.

Située au pied du Sonnenberg, la localité de Wihr-au-Val doit son origine au château de chasse que le Duc franc Bonifacius aurait fait construire à cet endroit entre 660 et 671. La première mention du village est datée de 896. Le village s’est appelé successivement : Bonifacii Villare, puis Wihre, Weyer et enfin Wihr-au-Val. En 1100, le village après avoir été la propriété de l’abbaye de Munster appartient aux Ribeaupierre, et devient le siège d’un bailliage de cette famille. Wihr-au-Val est entouré de remparts en 1279. Incendié et dévasté à plusieurs reprises, la dernière fois le 18 juin 1940, lors de l’offensive allemande dans la vallée, Wihr-au-Val renait à chaque fois de ses cendres. Seul village viticole du canton de Munster, Wihr-au-Val et son vignoble participent à la diversité des paysages de la vallée de Munster qui s’enorgueillit de posséder une appellation contrôlée pour la production des vins d’Alsace : les « Côtes du Val Saint-Grégoire ».

Stage 1 : The fortified gate

Admire the fortified gate, which stands at the entrance of the old medieval city. It is build at the same time as the wall. Destroyed the 18th June of 1940 as almost the entire village, during an artillery bombardment of the German army, it was rebuilt between 1958 and 1960. Nearby are the ruins of the ancient seigneurial castle.

Stage 2 : Saint Martin church

The Saint Martin church was built from 1868 to 1873 to replace the old church that stood on the present cemetery, which had become too small. During the fighting of 18th June 1940, it was badly damaged by fire. The bell is then completely destroyed. The church contains statues dating from the 15th to the 18th century and a remarkable organ invoice Parisian “Mutin-Caivaillé-Coll”.
