~~The form of worship was initially Presbyterian.
Later worship attitude changed to Independent Chapel, following a Congregational attitude, with orthodox Christian teachings.
The School Room and Vestry were built in 1836.
The Historic Chapels Trust acquired the property in 1998, and refurbished Salem Chapel and School Room at a cost of £700,000.
After this work was completed, the "HCT" desired the building to be used by the local community of East Budleigh and surrounding areas.
To this end a local Committee was established the "Friends of Salem Chapel" to invite new members and maintain the good standing of the buildings of Salem Chapel and School Room.
