Mynyddoedd Meirionnydd 5 This cache is one of 15 caches placed in rugged mountain terrain. Each cache is a 200mm round screw top plastic container containing pencil and log book. Parking is only really possible in a public car park (no fee) near Ysgol Machreth (Primary School). YOU WILL NEED TO BRING A PENCIL.
This series will take you on a circular walk of approx. 8 miles over Rhobell Fawr 734m from the village of Llanfachreth. Hopefully you will find all 15 caches each of which is named after one of the many mountains, in the old county of Meirionnydd now forming the southern half of Gwynedd, that can be seen on a clear day from the summit of Rhobell Fawr. Although Rhobell Fawr is perhaps not as stunning in shape as many of the mountains that surround it, it’s appeal is it’s central position in Meirionnydd which results in fantastic views of most of the mountains of Meirionnydd and beyond to Snowdonia, the Berwyns and Plynlimon on a good day. The mountain itself is quite rugged, with barely a path on it. The usual precautions will need to be considered before attempting these mountain caches. Strong walking boots, full waterproof clothing, first aid kit and map & compass (and ability to use them in poor visibility) will be needed. RHINOG FACH 2336ft (712m) – This mountain form the central part of “ Y Rhinogydd” (Rhinogs) along with its larger neighbour Rhinog Fawr.
