Beautiful Bargara is 15km from Bundaberg and boasts a number of beaches, accommodation and eating places.
Since the foreshore re-development in 2002 Bargara has blossomed and now is a very busy place at weekends and holidays. Free electric BBQ facilities coupled with ample seating, shade and grassy spots make it an ideal spot for the family to enjoy the beach. There are two patrolled beaches and numerous smaller un-patrolled ones as well as a beach boat ramp suitable for lighter boats. Over the last ten years many services have sprung up. This has resulted in a marked increase of both permanent and holiday populations. Various sporting and recreational activities are available for the holiday maker. Close by is the world famous turtle hatching beach, Mon Repos. It was on this beach that local lad Bert Hinkler flew his first glider in 1912. This was his first step on a stellar aviation career. See my cache Hustling Hinkler for more detail. At times turtles lay on the beach in front of the shops. These eggs are usually re-located by rangers to the Mon Repos turtle sanctuary. From 1912 to 1948 the railway came to Bargara and the big event was the Railway Picnic and Siren of the Surf competition. See my cache Surf Patrol for more detail. When at the cache site go out to the end of the groyne as there are great photo opportunities from there. Bring a pen and be very careful retrieving and replacing the cache making sure to properly replace the lid and make sure it is not hanging. The lid should stay attached to the fishing line which prevents the cache falling and being taken out by the tide. Some geocachers have pulled the line through the lid resulting in loss of the container when it falls and the tide takes it away. GPS a bit erratic probably due to trees and volcanic rock so I am adding a specific hint.
