Geocache Description:

Christ Church of Gentleshaw is a brick-built church, built to serve as a Chapel-of-ease to Longdon. It was officially opened on 28th August 1837 by the then Bishop of Lichfield. The congregation came from Gentleshaw, Cannock Wood and the Beaudesert Estate.

In the late 1850s the embattled tower was added which contains the bell which hung in the old belfry. The church was restored in 1875 and extended in 1903.

The co-ordinates above are not for the cache but for handy parking opposite the church.

The cache is not inside the church grounds but you will have to walk round the church (anti-clockwise) to find the numbers for the final co-ordinates which are a pleasant stroll from the church. To find the numbers, you do not need to wander from the path closest to the church

1) FIND THE CUT BENCHMARK
Enter the gate and find the cut benchmark etched into the wall of the church - it looks like an arrow.
You can also log this with a photo on waymarking.com if you wish here.
Click here for more information on benchmarks.
Look at the words carved above the benchmark
A = length of 6th word
B = length of 7th word MINUS length of last word

2) FIND THE BENCH
CD = How old was former Church Warden David Geddie when he died?

3) FIND THE MEMORIAL TO A FORMER VICAR
