Geocache Description:

Gargilesse

The river Gargilesse runs through this little town, home of the celebrated writer George Sand, and loved by the many impressionist painters who came to paint the river and surrounding countryside. It is built on a rocky hillside and has a very favourable micro-climate. With only three to four hundred inhabitants it is nonetheless able to receive many tourists and artists who come here to see, to celebrate and to learn. It is also known as the capital of the harp and there is a music festival in the summer. A harp academy was set up here by Pierre Jamet (1893-1991) You can visit the 12th century church with ancient frescoes, a château, a mill and the little house that belonged to George Sand. This cache is a replacement for GC19AV4 which is now archived.
