The county that once was surrounded by strong to protect themselves from the onslaught of enemies, has opened its doors today and "table always put" to receive those who come from outside.
Facing the sea and flanked by Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra, the Oeiras municipality requires mandatory stop. Over 250 years, Oeiras is forward looking but values the heritage of past centuries. The baroque gardens of Quinta Real de Caxias and Gunpowder Factory in Barcarena are two examples, among many.
Although it is a very populated county people and technology companies, Oeiras is rich in green spaces. This is the case of the modern park of the Poets, a large garden dedicated to poetry with a beautiful view over the river and the sea, or Sports Complex Jamor, including canoeing trail, tennis courts, maintaining circuit, a large parking canopy, Olympic pool and the Estádio Nacional. But its coast is still the place to which all roads lead. The promenade is lit at night and has half the marina at Oeiras (marina), with shops, bars, terraces and a magnificent view over the estuary of the Tagus. With strong fishing tradition, the county is still a major culinary destination, with special attention to famous restaurants in the streets of the historic center of Paço de Arcos.
With an area of 46km2 and a coastline of almost 10 kms, the Oeiras municipality has many points of interest. If we begin to follow it arrived in Lisbon, the marginal, we meet the Vasco da Gama Aquarium, an interesting oceanarium in the late nineteenth century. Who wants to go the route of the gardens, should also visit the Parque dos Poets.
