Spoorbrug Maastricht: Om de spoorlijn Aken-Maastricht door te verbinden naar Hasselt wordt in 1856 de spoorbrug gebouwd: twee aparte banen met sierlijke torentjes op de landhoofden en middenpijler. De brug sneuvelt in de Tweede Wereldoorlog en pas in 1957 wordt een nieuwe gebouwd. De afgelopen jaren zijn regelmatig geluiden opgegaan om de spoorbrug te slopen. De brug is momenteel niet meer in gebruik maar mogelijk wordt de brug ook weer in gebruik genomen. Als de plannen voor een lightrailverbinding met Hasselt doorgaan, is deze Maas-oversteek onmisbaar. Als de spoorlijn Maastricht-Lanaken weer in gebruik wordt genomen, dan zal Prorail de monumentale spoorbrug aan de Brusselseweg aanpassen om aan de huidige geluids- en arbonormen te voldoen. Met de gemeente Maastricht is overeengekomen dat ProRail de brug over de Brusselseweg dan meteen ook volledig zal restaureren. Met de restauratie krijgt de entree tot de stad Maastricht een bijzondere historische aanblik terug. Typische 19e eeuwse bouwstijl in eerste internationale spoortraject De spoorbrug over de Brusselseweg is een voor Nederland uniek en bijzonder bouwwerk dat van het rijk de status van Rijksmonument meekreeg. Met name de typische kasteelachtige bouwstijl uit de 19e eeuw met haar Franse en Engelse invloeden maakt de spoorbrug bijzonder. Zo zijn de acht achthoekige mergelstenen torentjes die als verdedigingswerk dienst deden, kenmerkend voor de smaak en het denken uit de 19e eeuw; net zoals het massieve metselwerk van de brug en de gietijzeren spitsen op de torentjes. De spoorbrug over de Brusselseweg is een van de eerste kleinere spoorbruggen in zijn soort waarvan er in Nederland later nog veel meer zouden volgen. De spoorbrug over de Brusselseweg is bijzonder te noemen omdat hij onderdeel uitmaakt van de eerste internationale spoorwegverbinding van Nederland (de lijn Maastricht-Aken) die van grote betekenis was voor Maastricht als industriestad.
