Voici l’arche blinoise qui fut, il y de cela quelques siècles, l’épicentre du réseau de galeries acoustiques. Elle fait partie de ce que l’on appelle le “patrimoine discret” de Blain . Elle date du 6èmesiècle.
Au 6ème siècle nos ancêtres fondent la ville de Blain qui s’étend sur un territoire de 14 km de long (comprenant ce qui s’appelle aujourd’hui St Omer de Blain et St Emilien de Blain). Le problème crucial devient l’information. Comment communiquer sur un territoire aussi vaste ?
Ils construisent cette arche qui permet de parler à distance.
L’intérieur est creux. Derrière la plaque fixée sur un des montants, se trouve ce qu’on pourrait appeler le 1er interphone de l’histoire. En parlant à l’intérieur, le message circulait dans l’arche, se répandait sous terre grâce à un réseau de galeries souterraines et ressortait à différents points d’écoute sur la commune.
1830 : un événement dans l’histoire de Blain va entraîner la destruction du réseau de galeries acoustiques. Le creusement du canal de Nantes à Brest provoque une énorme arrivée d’eau qui inonde le sous-sol et entraîne la destruction des souterrains.
L’arche ne peut donc plus répandre la parole des habitants ! Blain perd son principal moyen de communication et devient cette ville où personne n’est au courant de rien.
Au début du 20ème siècle, Émile Mouette se passionne pour l’incroyable histoire de l’arche. Il décide de la faire revivre en se substituant au réseau de galeries souterraines. En 1919, il se proclame “chuchoteur public”. Les habitants ne viennent plus parler à l’interphone mais ils vont se confier à Émile, sous l’arche tous les dimanches. C’est lui ensuite qui va répandre la parole dans la commune en chuchotant aux blinois ce qu’on lui avait dit.
Émile a une autre raison de vivre. Il veut déblayer les souterrains pour qu’après sa mort l’Arche fonctionne à nouveau toute seule. Toutes les nuits, il descend creuser. Sa mort restant un mystère, on peut supposer qu’il est mort dans les sous-sols de Blain.
En septembre 1954. Émile Mouette meurt. Et avec lui, le seul chuchoteur au monde. Blain en oublie son Arche, qui sera détruite, et redevient la ville où personne n’est au courant de rien !
En 1992, le conseil municipal de l’époque décide de réhabilité : l’Arche est reconstruite sur son emplacement historique. (Notons la qualité d’enduit incomparable, qu’on ne retrouve plus que dans les meilleurs lotissements).
