In 1951 the elders of the former New London Road Congregational Church in Chelmsford, resolved to build a Church to serve the (then) new Chignal Estate in the North of Chelmsford.
This took some years to come to fruition, but was finally accomplished after the Joint Management Committee of the New London Road and Baddow Road Congregational Churches in Chelmsford, passed a further resolution on 8 February 1955 to carry out a tented mission on the Estate.
This mission proved successful, with the foundation stone for the church (formerly called Trent Road Congregational Church), being laid on 27 May 1955.
The new church was officially opened by Alderman W.W. Farthing on the 23 November 1955, and it has been in regular use ever since.
However, due to falling numbers of members in recent years, a decision has reluctantly been taken to close the church, and the final service will take place on 11 January 2014 at 2.00pm.
