Washington-on-the-Brazos is where it all began! In 1836 a declaration of independence was drafted and signed and as a result Texas became a Republic, no longer a part of Mexico. This state historic site will show you all about Texas beginnings and how things were back in the 1800s. Be sure to visit the Star of the Republic Museum, Barrington Living History Farm, and Independence Hall. There are many caches in the park, but will require some walking to get to a couple of them.

WOB is also the location of annual events such as Texas Independence Celebration in March, Fireworks on the Brazos on July 4 and lots of historical presentations throughout the year.
