To get to this cache, head for the Ahuac spring at S 11 44.689 W 075 31.909 Local people come here to get the fresh spring water. Continue on toward a ruined chapel at S 11 44.972 W 075 31.433. You can notice how the adobe has eroded away, in a way similar to the erosion you’ll see in the badlands.
Pichiluli is the quechua name for this badlands. A beautiful view of the badlands can be found at S 11 45.201 W 075 31.309. Below you is the main trail through the canyon. If it is the height of rainy season, this trail may be too muddy to pass safely. Use your discretion. The cache is down in the canyon. Please be very careful when removing the box and when returning it—if it falls down inside you won’t be able to recover it.
After finding the cache, you may want to return to the Yanamarca Valley by retracing your steps or by finding your own route back up to the rim. Another option is to continue down the drainage until you come out in the neighboring Paca Valley. You’ll come out of the canyon at the Chuclu cemetery. (Look up at the mountain to the north of you. There’s a row of colcas there. These are granaries build by the Inca Empire.) Follow the dirt road from the cemetery to the paved road at the village of Chuclu. (Chuclu has a yellow chapel on the east side of the highway.) There are lots of collective taxis and mototaxis that run along this road. You can catch one south to Jauja, or north to the tourist restaurants on the shore of Lake Paca.
