The Calvaire is a site on the marked ramblers' pathway, the GR36, which is a major rambling route in this area. From this site, views around the Lot valley abound. Castelfranc, itself, is a small, scenic village of some 430 residents (2007). It has a beautiful medieval-inspired garden and a church with a bell tower from the 13 th century.
The geocache is a small plastic container with a log-book and some items for removal and replacement. It can be reached through a ramble from the town square, following signs to Le Calvaire, which would take approximately 40 minutes. Alternatively, by driving towards Fages and following signs to the property, Balaissac, which is on a mostly made-up road, except for the last 200-300 yards, when the road is stonier and has a grass track in the centre. It is possible to leave the car on scrub ground by Balaissac and walk to the crosses, which will take no longer than 5 minutes.
The geocache is hidden at the base of a stone wall which surrounds the crosses. It can only be accessed from behind the enclosure for the crosses. No dismantling of the wall is necessary; the geocache was placed in an exsisting aperture in the structure and concealed by the use of the two smallish shones which can be removed and replaced.
